Go-Jek, an Indonesian ride-hailing start-up company begun services in Thailand, and now working toward entering the Philippines.

After an initial testing phase announced in December 2018, GET – the local identity Go-Jek developed for the Thai market launched three services introducing food delivery with GET Food, express couriering with GET Delivery, and ride-hailing with GET Win.

Meanwhile, Go-Jek co-founder and CEO Nadiem Makarim told Reuters that they expect the company to be “pretty fast” in launching a ride-hailing service in the Philippines. However, Go-Jek was denied a ride-hailing operating license by Filipino regulators in January due to grounds that its domestic unit did not meet local ownership criteria.

Later in the month, Go-Jek announced the acquisition of the fintech start-up, Coins.ph and now building its presence in the Philippines.

Go-Jek comes from the word “Ojek,” the Indonesian word for motorbike taxis was founded in 2010 with 20 motorbike drivers. Now, the company exceeds 1 million drivers and offers 18-app-based on-demand services as of May 2018. The firm started operations in Vietnam in September and began trials in Singapore and Thailand at the end of last year.
